The Disc Golf Streak, Days 2170-2173 (Flip City, Whitehall, Henderson Lake)

Days 2170-2173

So we took a family vacation up to Michigan . . . of course we played three new courses while we were up there.  First day was Henderson Lake, next day was Whitehall and then Flip City.  Due to time/travel we replayed Henderson Lake the last day.

All of these were really good courses.  Henderson Lake was very secluded . . . we didn't see another golfer while we were there.  Unfortunately Danny fell/tripped on a teepad at Winton the previous week and his back was still hurting him a lot this week so at Henderson he just threw the super short kiddie tees . . . and it was really nice they had those and at least he could enjoy that.  Enjoyable course, wooded and technical and had a nice layout.  Challenging (I thought) as I threw well and ended up at par 54.

Whitehall the next day was also really good . . . reminded me of a mix of Renny in Charlotte and Torma Town.  Felt a little shorter than Henderson.  Good enjoyable lines, fun golf, again pretty challenging as I threw really well and ended up at par 54.

Flip City the next day was great!  Danny was disappointed he couldn't throw the whole thing but his back was feeling good enough and the course was enticing enough that he picked and chose his shots to throw and simply couldn't resist throwing some of the holes.  We met up with a guy and his kid from New York as we were starting (Josh & Logan) and played with them.  Logan was really impressive (I'm guessing he was 10 or 11) and could throw it really far for his size.  The course was well designed, especially considering it was started in 1980 when the game (and discs) were totally different.  It's still a great, modern, challenging course design.  24 holes total, lots of elevation and mostly wooded with some kind of open shots.  It's hard to imagine that this is a course in someone's backyard.  Completely worth the $5 to play.  It may not be the greatest course around . . . but it is certainly a great course and I'm glad we played it especially considering Flip City's special place in disc golf's lore.  Again, very challenging imo, I was throwing/putting extremely well and scored a 73 on 24 holes (four 4's and three 2's).  I think that's pretty good but better players are probably able to throw farther/better and get some additional birdies that weren't in the cards for me.  Don't think I could have done much better.

All in all a great week of playing when Danny wasn't in good physical condition (he was still a trooper) and disc golf wasn't the priority.

Note to Danny -- Remember how we got to Henderson Lake 45 min before dark on that 55 degree, rainy day and basically ran the course playing the super short tees?  And remember how well our fantasy disc golf team did that week at Ledgestone where all of them made the cut?  Good times.
