The Disc Golf Streak, Day 1453 (Midsummer Ams Classic @ Cedar Grove)

 Day 1453

Drove out to Cedar Grove today so Danny could play in the Midsummer Ams Classic tourney.  Beautiful day for it -- calm, mostly sunny and not too hot.  Two round tourney, attendance was less than usual -- about three dozen -- which was kinda nice since the course wasn't too crowded and it flowed better than most tourneys.

I caddied for him and first round he threw with John (MA2) and Josh.  Then the second round was with Josh again and then Leonard.  Both cards were good and he had a great time today.

The course is tough . . . no one in any division felt "good" about their score because everyone was hitting trees and going OB so everyone had some ugly holes.  Danny was no exception and his first round was "okay" and he shot a 78 (rated 804).  Second round he had a better idea of how to play the course and improved quite a bit and shot a 71 (rated 853).  New milestone for him -- that is his highest round rating to date.

The second round still had some ugly holes (a 7 on Hole 14) but had some real highlights like a 4 on Hole 8 with the most beautiful flex forehand I've seen him throw . . . it was his third shot thrown 250' down to the edge of the green's brick OB where he sank the 20' putt for his 4.  After nearly acing Hole 9 (truck bed hole) he then managed an easy 5 on the extremely difficult (final) Hole 10 with a perfect drive followed by two nearly flawless anny forehands that put him in easy up-and-down position.  (He told me to make sure I added the 3rd throw anny flex shot on Hole 8 to the diary so that one wouldn't be forgotten.  It was a beautiful sight.)

He missed cashing by one stroke . . . ended up 7th out of 11 rec players.  He did beat all of the other rec players in the second round except the overall winner.

It was a great day, lots of fun.  Driving home he told me multiple times how much fun he had and how glad he was that we went.
