The Disc Golf Streak, Day 1060 (Idlewild Open)

Day 1060.

Well, we had planned on going to the Idlewild Open on Sunday but my taffy ran well and work was smooth so I got out early and we decided to go down Fri afternoon (2:30 tee time) to watch Brad Schick, Derek Desentz, Kevin Hyche . . . and some guy named Michael Johansen.

It was a lot of fun for us.  We watched the first five holes, doubled back to the tent area so Danny could get a few autographs from the lead card (Ricky Wysocki, Kevin Jones) that hadn't teed off yet, then went back out and caught the group again at hole 11.

There were a couple aces on Friday -- Keith Emerson on Hole 3 and James Conrad on Hole 9 . . . but we saw something even rarer . . . we are a couple of only a handful of people to have ever seen something so strange and unusual . . . pity there weren't more people around to witness this crazy event.  What was it, you ask?  We saw Michael Johansen throw a forehand tee shot on wide open Hole 4.  I know, I know.   You don't believe me, but it happened.

The round ended up being a nice teaching reinforcement as well because Schick and MJ are really good golfers (I'm always telling Danny to "be a golfer not a thrower") so little things like seeing understable drivers going uphill (Hole 15) or low throw shots through tunnels (Hole 18) or short well placed tee shots rather than booming drives that wouldn't give an advantage (Hole 16) were all good reinforcements of the points with him.  Brad ended up 2-under and MJ 5-under.

We always enjoy going and hanging out at the Idlewild Open -- it reminds me of when my dad used to take the family to the ATP (now W&S Open) tennis tournament out in Mason.  And it made me chuckle that last year we walked around with an umbrella because of rain and this year we walked around with it because of sun.

After the round Danny & Tovin hung out for a long while putting and throwing minis, then we headed home and watched Battlebots -- the Desperado Tournament.  Could this day get any better?  (Answer, no, not really.)
