The Disc Golf Streak, Day 1047 (Hammond & Final 9 at Peter Pan)

Day 1047.

Danny started the day with a one stroke lead in fourth place (last lead card spot for the Final 9).  The morning nine holes were at Hammond where he threw with Wyatt Mahoney, Uriyah Kelley & Wilson Grebe -- this was great that he got to throw with the top kids and neat because he started "poorly" so he got to throw with every kid since he went from last card to chase card to lead card.

The round at Hammond started rough with a couple bogeys but got on track and thanks to connecting on a long par putt on Hole 3 (30-35'?) he finished with a 29 . . . which left him in a tie with Jayden Torres.

After waiting for 20 minutes they headed to Hole 2 and both started by carding birdies.  On Hole 3, Jayden hit a tree on his drive, Danny threw a nice tee shot, Jayden made a nice recovery shot to about 25', Danny threw a weak upshot to about 30', Danny nailed his 30' putt and Jayden missed his . . . and with that Danny got to go to the Final 9.

It should be noted that getting to the Final 9 was more of an honor because at that point Danny was 30 strokes off the lead.  But it was still fun. 😀

They introduced the players and played an intro song of their choice (Danny chose The Final Countdown).  The Final 9 was at the Emporia Country Club (set up on the golf course).  So, his highlights of the round?  Honestly, none.  It was long, hot, windy and he hadn't ever seen the course so it was bad round, but he did have some decent shots here and there.  Even misting him constantly he overheated badly.  Of course, it didn't matter since it was just a fun round at that point.

After that we hung around and watched Lilly Ruthen finish (4th in MJ15) and also Zach Arlinghaus (who stayed with us this week) who took home the MJ18 crown by destroying the 72 person field by 15 (!) strokes.  Awesome.

There was an award ceremony right after that and Danny got a 4th place glass trophy.

Drove about five hours toward home (and stayed at the worlds worst Motel 6 outside of St. Louis in IL, but that's another story I'd rather forget, thank you very much).

Oh, and I did remember to get a pic of Danny and Liam -- those two were good buds by the end of the week -- good enough that Liam passed up the waterpark to come and watch the Final 9 at the country club.

Overall, this was a fantastic week with great golf and lots of friends.  The whole event was so well run I'd recommend it to anyone.  I don't know if we'll make it back to Worlds again, but we enjoyed this experience immensely.
