The Disc Golf Streak, Day 1006 (Cheryl's Choice Tourney @ Osage)

Day 1006

Danny played the "Cheryl's Choice" tournament at Osage today.  This was a tournament on a slightly easier, shorter format than normal Osage tournaments -- it was a mix of red and blue tees but to almost exclusively short pins.  About 50 people ended up signing up which was a pretty good turnout since there were only 18 signed up a couple days before.

I decided to just caddie today so we could each get used to the player/caddie dynamic for a junior tournament he's playing in next month.  And it was a real nice change just watching for once.  He played in foursomes with Kenny Price, Chris Grayson and Casey Dressler in the first round and Kenny, Robert Burt and Stephen  Pruitt in the second round.  The foursomes were all fun to play with and the weather was perfect (78 and partly sunny), although the wind picked up in the second round.

Danny threw very well overall, shooting a 63 in the first round and 59 in the second round, recording ratings of 781 and 838 (his second 800+ rated round and highest rating to date).  I think that's the first time he's broken 60 at Osage on any layout.  He finished 6 out of 8 in the rec division -- pretty respectable and only 3 strokes away from 2nd place.

I had a great time caddying for him.  95% of the time I just watched and let him pick out his disc and make his shot selection, although every once in while he'd want advice or I'd point out something he may not have noticed.  He didn't take any 6's on the day and just three 5's so it was a pretty clean day of disc golf.  He told me later in the evening (as we headed outside to play baseball and basketball at home) that he was glad I had been his caddie . . . made me smile.

Also had a ring of fire afterward which is always fun . . . another great event put on by CROSSover Disc Golf (Josh & Cheryl Terwilleger).
