The Disc Golf Streak, Day 3652 (Cabin Creek)

Day 3652

So it has been ten years of throwing every single day.   I consider it mildly amazing that we were able to go ten years without forgetting or somehow being unable to throw on a particular day . . . but here we area.  Sometimes it is just putting, sometimes just throwing in the yard, plenty of rounds and doubles and events . . . but somehow we managed to always make time for it every day.

So neither one of us wanted to throw a tournament, didn't feel like doubles today (just played Gulley dubs last Sunday and I threw Dunham dubs on Thurs night) so we just decided to throw a casual round.  Wanting to do something different I saw that Scott had the Cabin Creek disc golf course open this weekend (his father Bill just passed away) so we decided to go there.

I've only been out to Cabin Creek twice previously -- once for the 1998 Worlds where I went with Megan and watched Climo and Stokely (and Lissaman and Martin) with Climo prevailed again and once to throw a casual round with my friend Eric.

I was pleasantly surprised by the good condition of the course.  Maintenance ranged from reasonable to good and we didn't have much trouble navigating the course (didn't need to use uDisc).  It's about 6000' long which was long back in the day but not so much these days but it had some nice Par 4s mixed in.  But for a hot day in August it was long enough without being grueling.  And thankfully most of the course it pretty wooded so it was comfortable.

A few ceilings and lines were low and tight because of tree growth, but still very playable.  The course shares the property with a paintball course so it isn't the most natural throughout the course but even then the paintball obstacles actually add to the challenge and there is enough beautiful nature out there that I didn't find the paintball course objectionable at all.

We played doubles and shot a 53, didn't seem too bad considering we couldn't see a lot of the baskets as we threw.

The place reminds me a lot of Flip City in Michigan . . . private course with a home on site, older classic design, worn in and feels like it belongs on the land.  Some places just feel right . . . Hole 17 with the "lake" and green full of trees walled off by 18's hill is one of those places.

Pleasant drive out to the "country" . . . enjoyable day, nostalgic seeing the old course again and a fine day of throwing frisbees . . .

17's green . . .
