The Disc Golf Streak, Day 1195 (Stonelick BYOP Fundraiser Tournament)

Day 1195.

We'd been looking forward to this event for a few weeks now -- Kurt Lahm (and the Friends of Stonelick) put together a fundraiser to help get baskets for the course that has been quickly coming together out at Stonelick State Park.  So far the holes are carved out and the teepads have been installed so mostly it is just waiting for baskets (the event used temp baskets today).

Today's event was BYOP so Danny & I threw together in the mixed division.  Kurt gave the option of one round or two so we only threw one round since we normally have plans on Sunday afternoons.

We got to throw with Allen White and Zach Luncan which was a lot of fun (Allen is my neighbor's grandson).  None of us really knew the course -- we had been out and seen the land a couple times while doing a bit of coursework and at the Birdie Bash in the fall but we hadn't seen the real layout.  It was easy to follow though.

Quite a bit of it was a surprise and more challenging than I expected (longer and more technical) . . . but I love this course.  There wasn't a single hole that wasn't good and there were a lot of technical wooded holes, the teepads were well placed, the pins well placed, it was super challenging, it was scenic . . . the only "negative" thing is that it just needs to be cleaned up and beat in a little more, but for a brand new, raw course it is fantastic.

We started on 13 . . . and 13 & 14 are two of the hardest holes on the course so we started with a rough 6 & 5 . . . but it got a lot better from there.  With one temp hole there were 19 holes . . . we shot a 65 (par is probably 60 on that layout with three Par 4's most likely) and that felt pretty good after the rough start.  It was windy and cool, but for December it really wasn't bad.  We ended up tied with Allen & Zach.

This was Hole 5 (start of the scenic lakeside holes) . . .

Another scenic pin location (Hole 9):

Wonderful elevated teepad on Hole 8 (beautiful view and 330-ish downhill shot with plenty of wind to make it interesting):

Another cool elevated teepad (Hole 13) that is split in two directions so you can choose the left or right lines:

And the layout for the course/event:

Had a great time, it was really fun to get to play the actual layout.  We sponsored a hole . . . can't wait until the rest are sponsored so we can get baskets in the ground and the course will be playable.  This course is going to be great and is going to get a ton of use with the state campground out there.   And the lake level will rise from all of the discs that are going to fill the lake.  LOL

Oh and a final side note -- I failed to get across the water on Hole 10 (although I did manage to retrieve my water disc) so my partner had to throw across the water and made it.  He bailed us out.  Someday when he reads this he will be smiling about that memory. 😀
