The Disc Golf Streak, Day 949 (Boone & South Fork, casual dubs)

Day 949.

There's a CCS at Boone next Sunday so we headed down to throw a practice round today in case we decide to do that.  Beautiful day, first time throwing without sweatshirts in what seems like forever.  Only his second time of throwing Boone (other time was the Millennium Challenge last summer).  He wanted to play dubs . . . we ended up 9-under on 17 holes (Hole 16 had too many soccer players near it to throw).  We both threw well, he hit some 25-30' putts that would have been tough ones for me, so that always helps.  Had six straight birdies on the back nine up until Hole 18 when I hit the band on my putt. Doh!

Headed over to South Fork Park which was nearby (15 minutes or so).  We hadn't been there and it was our 40th course.  It was okay overall, but I don't see us going back to it again.  Very open fairways with very few trees in play . . . Holes 1 & 9 were completely open and parallel to each other, Holes 2 & 8 were essentially identical (but good) throws over the creek, Hole 5 (and to a lesser extent Hole 6) was a throw from on top of a mountain (hill) across a valley to another hill.  Hole 5 is definitely distinctive in our area.  I think part of my ambivalence for this course is that there were paths with walkers and creeks with waders throughout the course so it was just crowded with people in and around the fairways.  Also, the fairways don't drain well so it was still very sloppy in a lot of places (Boone wasn't today).  And without trees in play it was just too open to present much challenge.  We threw casual dubs and ended up 4-under.  I think my judgment on this may be a little too tough because Mason is a better nine hole course so I kept comparing South Fork to Mason as we played.  So, in fairness, it was a good course, just not good enough for us to go back to it again in lieu of going to the much closer Mason.
