The Disc Golf Streak, Day 788 (Birdie Bash & Pumpkin Carving)

Day 788.

Today we played the fall Birdie Bash up at Mt. Airy where they set up the course with 30 short birdie-able holes . . . mostly 150-200'.

This event is probably our #1 favorite most anticipated event of the year.

We met up with Mike & Oliver Taylor, Matt Wingert & Nate Slone.

The course was pretty similar to past years with a few changes here and there.  Including the wind.  I have no idea why Jason & Adam ordered so much wind to be brought in for the Birdie Bash, but it definitely changed things.  So, it was plenty windy (and got worse later in the day). Mike, Matt & Nate are all pretty darn good players so it was interesting to see the differences between their games (trusting their discs and using more spin to "cut" through the wind) and my game (trusting only stupid overstable discs to fight the wind).

Anyway, Danny & I had a really good time (as we always do at Birdie Bash) and threw well for us -- Danny carded 6 birdies and I got 16.  Because it started raining as we finished we didn't really consider a second round . . . and given how windy it got I was glad we didn't.  Highlight for me was hitting a 50-60' putt on Hole #29.  Highlight for Danny (from my POV) was watching him keep a strong mental game and persevering even after poor results on the first 20 holes (albeit with good throwing) and getting four birdies in the last ten holes to give him overall results he was satisfied with.

Later in the day it was pumpkin carving time and no surprise we went with disc golf themed carvings.  Mine is a carving of dinosaurs enjoying a last round of disc golf while a Comet is on its way to destroy them.  Danny has a dinosaur next to a volcano with the Comet throwing a disc into the basket next to a pumpkin to let you know for sure that this is Halloween and not some other festive holiday. LOL

The Bengals even managed to hold on and win 37-34 today on a last second field goal so this qualified as an overall great day . . . not like the spring when we had a great time at Birdie Bash and then watched XU and UC in the NCAA tournament . . .
