The Disc Golf Streak, Day 670 (Millennium Challenge)

Day 670 of the streak.

Today we went down to Boone Woods in northern Kentucky to play in a Millennium Challenge fundraiser hosted by Joe Javins.  This was a one-round event . . . which is what we usually stick to doing . . . especially when it's so hot you can hear the trees whistling for dogs out there.

I think this is Danny's 32nd course.  I used to play Boone Woods fairly often back in the 90's, but it was redesigned back in 2009 so it's a completely different course now.  The only thing that I think looked familiar was the parking lot.

So at the event you got to choose two Millennium discs to use during the round and you brought your own putter, so I chose an Orion LF and Aurora (Thunderbird and Mako3 equivalents) and Danny chose a lightweight Polaris LS and Aurora (Leopard and Mako3) and we each brought along a Judge putter.

We paired up with Bill LaVine and Greg Eilers and started on hole 10.  Did I mention that it was 150 degrees outside today?  Okay, maybe not, but it felt like it.  Holes 10-18 more or less go through the woods so it wasn't too bad and we found shade and there was even some breeze.  And holes 1-9 are in the open but there were a decent number of trees for shade so it could be worse.  But it was *hot* today . . . so we had converted our old BP-3 backpack into a BP-3 cooler backpack.  So our pack held 8 bottles of water and ice and snacks . . . and 3 discs in the putter pocket.  LOL  We were sweating like rented mules out there today.

The round went well considering we had never played this course before and had never thrown these discs before.   It was a big help having Bill and Greg guide us around and show us the lines.  I ended up 3-under (51) and Danny was +15 (69).  Not too bad, he did manage to beat three adults in the B-pool and was only a few strokes behind some more.  I was middle of the pack in the A-pool.

One of the highlights of today was Bill Eilers hitting an ace on Hole #8 (our second to last hole) with a Sentinel MF.  186' downhill shot . . . nice shot but our celebration was kind of pathetic -- "Yeah!" <high five> "Whew, it's hot out here. Is that shade over there?"  It was his first ace!  And the second one we witnessed this week (see Day 667).

It was a good time, Joe raised about half the money he needs for new tee signs at Boone, we got two new discs, we had fun throwing with Bill & Greg, no one lost any discs and no one died from heat exhaustion!  I call that a win . . .
