The Disc Golf Streak, Day 683 (Pre-Idlewild Open Dubs Round)

Day 683 of the streak.

The Idlewild Open is next week.
The Idlewild Open is next week!
THE IDLEWILD OPEN IS NEXT WEEK!

Okay, we're getting a bit excited about the fact that (as you may have heard) the Idlewild Open is next week (Fri 7/20 thru Sun 7/22).  For any non-disc golfers who read my diary blog, the Idlewild Open is a Disc Golf Pro Tour event and a lot of the world's best players will be here to play.  It's the disc golf equivalent of the Western-Southern Open for tennis here in Cincinnati and Idlewild is a top-10 ranked course. It's beautiful and challenging.

So last year Danny, Eric & I went down before the event and played a round of triples in our own version of Champs v Chumps and shot a 77.  This year we were down to two Chumps (me & Danny) and we managed a 78 without our third Chump (I think par is 66).  For reference, last year the winner (James Conrad) averaged a 62 over three rounds and a 78 average would put you in 75th place out of 89.  And those guys are playing by themselves.  Yeah, that's how good they are.

Overall we threw pretty well for us and were satisfied.  Danny was most often throwing his purple TL and doing really well carving lines in the woods with it.  Those last six holes are tough and we got worn down (hot!).

I'm to a point where I almost never bother giving him shot advice any more . . . why should I bother when more often than not today he's throwing a TL 150-200' through trees on a line to where he wants?  One thing I love about Idlewild is it's more of a course for golfers rather than throwers (i.e. you have to think about and hit your lines in the woods and not just try to power long drives).

All in all, it was a great day, there's not much more fun in this world than playing a casual dubs round at Idlewild!  And yes, playing casual dubs at Idlewild > watching the Idlewild Open.  *That's* how much fun it is to play! 😃
