Day 646 of the streak.
Tonight Danny threw in Matt Blakely's PDGA Weekly Singles 2 League. He threw with Tim Anderson, Tim Driscoll and Doug McDiarmid.
By way of background, we each set a goal for ourselves this year. Mine was to throw a 900+ rated round (in an event) and his was a 700+ rated round. Last week we threw Blakely's event at Osage Grove (Goshen) and I threw a 921 rated round. He struggled with putting last week (and some bad decision making) so he threw a 641 round. His other rated round this year was a 663. These are still overall positive since his rating from the couple events we played last year was 570.
So, having met my goal and since I thought he could have made better decisions last week, I decided to not play myself and just caddied for him this week to try and help him out. This week at Osage was from the longs . . . which is kind of interesting for a kid who maxes out at about 200'.
He threw pretty well and didn't make too many mistakes. Yeah, a bad decision here and there and one putt that chained out from 10' (literally dead center, perfectly thrown, no idea how it could have been rejected). He shot an 84 . . . not too bad considering he shot 80 from the shorts the week before. The other rec players at the event ranged from 75 to 83, so not too bad for a 49lb, 8 y/o.
Highlight of the night was him carding a 4 on Hole 16 (500'+). And that was easily made by sinking a 10' putt for the 4. That alone made the night worthwhile.
We picked up some discs from Blakely. Danny got a light blue Big Z Comet, I got a light blue ESP Comet and an orange Z FLX Zone. Had some fun throwing different Discraft discs at Osage's driving range.
Waited a day and saw the results . . . rating of 694. So close to his goal, but no cigar. He'll have to keep plugging away. But really I don't think either one of us are too concerned about about it . . . his game is progressing nicely and we are having fun.
